Professional development for existing teachers

All fully qualified teachers will be expected to complete a minimum of 30 hours continuing professional development (CPD) per year.  This may be made up of a balance of informal activities such as peer observation or reflection on reading, and formal study.

Units of study are under development which may be followed as CPD activities for fully qualified teachers, or as optional units on initial teacher training programmes. Themes include:  working with 14 - 19 learners, embedding language, literacy and numeracy for teachers of vocational and other subjects.  See Lifelong Learning UK www.lluk.org.uk for a list of proposed units.

You can search for CPD courses on the talent course database.

Peer Coaching for Embedding Literacy, Language and Numeracy

This project funded an exciting new pilot programme for vocational and Skills for Life teachers: Peer Coaching for Embedding Literacy, Language and Numeracy.  This programme focuses on using peer coaching techniques to develop innovative embedded learning programmes related to priority sectors such as Construction, Retail, Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism.

Two free pilot programmes, written and delivered by LLU+ at London South Bank University and the South London Professional Development Centre, were available in October 2007 and January/February 2008.
