Preparing for Learning Pilot

An East London Pathfinder Project

This project aimed to give students who experience cultural as well as language difficulties in understanding a chance to explore the Learning Agreement, Individual Learning Plans, the Students' Charter, Equal Opportunities and the Disciplinary procedure in their own language. Tutors contributed issues they consider relevant to their students to be included in the first language explorations. Feedback was collated through focus groups and to date the feedback from the students and the tutors who took part is very encouraging. Students expressed that they benefitted from the clearer and better understanding of what is expected of them and tutors expressed that knowing students had access to the same expecations made them confident in what they expected of their students. Despite major drawbacks in physical space to carry out the full plan of action, from the pilot that was run we have already developed three modules that will be taken forward to diversify the skills development needs of students.
