On 1 July the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) adds two new modules to Skilled to go, its free web-based toolkit for adult education that uses everyday consumer situations as contexts for learning numeracy and literacy. Download the free resources for teachers and learners below.

The new modules help learners to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to avoid scams and to deal with the challenges of buying and running a car. Content includes quizzes, audio and matching activities, games, research tasks and role plays along with Teachers’ notes – including full consumer information - and a User guide referenced to the literacy, numeracy and ESOL adult core curricula and Functional Skills. Discrete versions exist for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Scams and Cars modules were developed in partnership with LLU+, who also developed the first three toolkit modules – Buying and selling, Technology and Utilities. Since then, over 5800 teachers have registered on the OFT website to access the materials and OFT has delivered over 30 teacher workshops to spread the word about Skilled to go. If you are interested in a free workshop to learn more about using Skilled to go, or would like a free cascade pack to support you in rolling it out to colleagues, email oftconsumereducation@oft.gsi.gov.uk
