Learning Unlimited is very pleased to offer the following courses for the forthcoming academic year, 2012-13.

Advanced numeracy for teachers
£300 per student – 15 weeks from 26th October, 10am-1pm
Learning Unlimited, Institute of Education

Aimed at teachers of adults, this 15 week course will help to improve numeracy skills and knowledge at Level 3, resulting in a profound understanding of fundamental mathematics and how to deal with common errors and misconceptions.

Teaching basic literacy to ESOL learners
Limited free places for teachers working with women from outside the EU, otherwise £400 per student – fortnightly for 8 sessions
on Mondays from 1st October, 5pm-8pm

For ESOL teachers, this course will help develop methods and strategies for supporting the literacy needs of ESOL learners. It will offer practical ideas for teaching and learning approaches, materials, assessment, differentiation and classroom management.

Pathway to becoming a Teaching Assistant
£660 per student – 30 weeks from 25th September, 10am-1pm
Rye Oak Children’s Centre, Southwark
This one year level 2 City and Guilds accredited course is aimed at adults who want to train to be teaching assistants or who have just started working as a teaching assistant. You will need to have a placement in a school arranged for at least 1 day per week.

Using history of mathematics in teaching adult numeracy
£150 per student – 15th October, 22nd October and 5th November, 3pm-6pm

Over 3 half-day sessions, this lively course is for anyone who would like to use stories and people in mathematics to help break down anxiety about numbers and calculations, either for themselves or to use in teaching.

Recognising dyslexia and strategies for support
£95 per student - 17th October or 16th November, 10am-4pm
Learning Unlimited, Institute of Education
This one day short course will support non specialist tutors and other trainers in recognising some of the specific indicators associated with dyslexia. The course will offer a range of ideas and resources for tutors of all subjects to support their learners’ literacy
