Further Education Guild
The Government is to fund a new professional body for further education and postpone plans to remove the requirement for lecturers to be qualified teachers, official documents revealed this week.
Ministers yesterday invited bids from outside organisations to run the Further Education Guild which could be up and running by next spring.
The move is set out in a prospectus, called “Developing a Guild for Further Education”, which has been sent to leading sector stakeholder bodies by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
The Prospectus invites, in the first instance, outline proposals bringing together sector interests for the employer-led partnership needed to develop a full proposal.
If an organisation or a consortium wishes to apply to develop the Guild, it will need to submit the application form by 14 September 2012. Outline proposals will be assessed by a panel established by BIS. The preferred bidder will be invited to further develop and fully cost their plans, which will need to be submitted by 31 October 2012.
