In this issue, there are plans to report national-level data on the FE system, new discussions on public spending from both the Government and the opposition and an interesting new White Paper on Education. Also, Hefce’s looking for new board members – could it be you?

Below are two papers. First, a Brief Guide to Control shift, the Conservative policy paper on local government. Its policies on devolution and local empowerment are, in some ways, potentially quite radical, and it’s well worth a perusal.

The other paper is a briefing on the new Education White Paper, or, more precisely, the sections that relate to FE. Included is a proposal to allow colleges and other bodies (universities, for example) to run chains of schools. Have a look.
